The First Movement
The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra( QPO) was founded on the idea of introducing classical symphonies to the people of Qatar while sharing Arabic compositions with the world.
QPO struck its first chord in 2007, bringing together musicians from over 30 countries in Doha. More than an ensemble, they became a symbol of Qatar’ s multicultural creativity, delivering a quality of music previously unheard by classical fans across the country.
The Crescendo
The Philharmonic’ s reputation has grown to claim its rightful place among the great orchestras of the world, with international tours from the UK and China to Russia and the United States.
Yet perhaps QPO’ s most profound notes are still played at home, where Qatar’ s museums and colourful canals are transformed into concert halls, and audiences are introduced to music that transcends language, boundaries, and borders.
Overture to Tomorrow
The Philharmonic’ s story is still being written. With every performance, we will continue to unite audiences through the universal language of music.
The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra( QPO) presents around 40 distinct programmes each year, welcoming international and regional artists alike. As it continues to expand its repertoire and global reach, the Philharmonic stands as both a cultural ambassador for Qatar and a meeting point for classical traditions from every corner of the world.
Reflecting on this vision, Sub-Principal Lorena Manescu told Q Life,“ Music travels beyond culture and beyond continents. It’ s a harmonising and unifying factor”.
