Issue 8 ASMAA MOSA AL-ATEY More than just a job The frontline – a term dominating the media alongside images of painful mask imprints on exhausted faces. Few ever see what happens there, a place of constant battle, sleepless nights and inevitable sacrifice. “ When I come home from work,” Asmaa Mosa Al- Atey shares, “I essentially quarantine myself in my room and eat my meals separately from the rest of the family. I do not hug or kiss my parents or siblings to reduce any potential infection risks.” For nearly two decades, Asmaa Mosa Al-Atey has worked within the fast-paced Trauma Unit of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), a career that she finds rewarding despite the high intensity nature of the environment. As Acting Assistant Executive Director of Nursing for HMC’s Emergency and Trauma Center, she was also one of the first people to experience the effects of the coronavirus pandemic in Qatar.
