Sheraton Grand Doha

The first luxury resort in Qatar , the Sheraton Grand Doha opened its doors on 22 February 1982 . Affectionately referred to as “ The Pyramid of the Gulf ”, the iconic resort and convention hotel has not only welcomed tourists but also greeted international delegations and dignitaries at its gates .

Strategically located in the West Bay district next to the city ’ s Corniche , the property has become a favoured meeting point for official discussions and international conferences , such as the annual Doha Forum .

Over the years , as Qatar solidified its position as a global mediator , the Sheraton Grand Doha became the backdrop for many of the country ’ s initiatives in international mediation . From the historic Doha peace talks in 2008 , which brought an end to Lebanon ' s political crisis , to the signing of the Doha Agreement in 2020 , marking the resolution of a nearly two-decade-long war in Afghanistan , the building ’ s hallowed halls have witnessed pivotal and historic moments in international conflict resolution . While challenging , these talks relied on bringing together disputing parties and finding common ground – all with the aim of supporting global peace and security .

Once a solitary structure jutting out along Doha ’ s crescent bay , the Sheraton Grand Doha now stands as an iconic landmark within Qatar ’ s shimmering skyline . As the country continues to expand its role as a global mediator , the Sheraton Grand Doha will remain an enduring symbol of Qatar ’ s story – past , present , and future .
