ASMAA MOSA AL-ATEY
More than
just a job
The frontline – a term dominating the
media alongside images of painful
mask imprints on exhausted faces. Few
ever see what happens there, a place
of constant battle, sleepless nights and
inevitable sacrifice.
“
When I come home from work,” Asmaa Mosa Al-
Atey shares, “I essentially quarantine myself in my
room and eat my meals separately from the rest of
the family. I do not hug or kiss my parents or siblings
to reduce any potential infection risks.”
For nearly two decades, Asmaa Mosa Al-Atey has
worked within the fast-paced Trauma Unit of Hamad
Medical Corporation (HMC), a career that she finds
rewarding despite the high intensity nature of the
environment. As Acting Assistant Executive Director
of Nursing for HMC’s Emergency and Trauma Center,
she was also one of the first people to experience the
effects of the coronavirus pandemic in Qatar.
Heroes are regular people
doing often ordinary things
out of love and concern for
others.

“During this pandemic, I have seen so many
heroes rise up to the challenge,” she says with bold
conviction. Every person has the power to make even
a small impact. “Heroes are regular people doing
often ordinary things out of love and concern for
others.”
